Japanese Department Holds Workshop with a Delegation from Hokkaido Bunka Gakuen University
On September 5, 2025, a group of teachers and students from Hokkaido Gakuen University in Japan visited the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University for exchange. The event was hosted by Li Boyan, a student from the Japanese Department.
Right at the beginning, Professor Jin Wenfeng, the director of the Japanese Department, delivered a speech on behalf of the SFL, extending a warm welcome to the visiting delegation. Then, a professor from the International Business Department of Hokkaido Gakuen University gave a speech, introducing the main arrangements of the exchange and expressing gratitude for the active participation of students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Thematic Sharing
During the thematic presentation session, students from Hokkaido Gakuen University split itno groups to deliver vivid presentations. The first group introduced the various activities of Japanese college students during the summer vacation and the differences in daily routines between high school and college students through a combination of pictures and text. The second group focused on three classic animations by Hayao Miyazaki to showcase the unique charm of Japanese anime culture. The third group started with their hometown Sapporo, taking everyone on a tour of the different natural landscapes and special activities in each season. They also designed interactive Q&A sessions. The entire presentation session was detailed and lively.
In the following free exchange, the three groups of students interacted face-to-face with SJTU students in turn. They introduced themselves, exchanged contact information, and engaged in lively discussions on daily life, dreams and the future.
At lunchtime, teachers and students went together to SJTU's second Dining Hall, experiencing the unique atmosphere and various dishes in a Chinese university cafeteria. Amid the steaming food, everyone shared their first impressions of Chinese cuisine and engaged in a lively discussion about eating habits, taste preferences, and campus food culture. Chinese and Japanese teachers and students also talked about the different cooking methods and flavors of common foods such as ramen, rice, and desserts in the two countries, and extended the conversation to cultural differences in family dinners and festival foods.
Campus Visit
In the afternoon, teachers and students from Beihai Gakuen University visited the campus accompanied by SJTU students. Despite the hot weather, everyone's enthusiasm remained undiminished. During the visits to the library, teaching buildings and the campus square, both groups of teachers and students deepened their understanding of each other's learning and living environments.
At the end of the event, teachers and students from both sides took a group photo as a memento. Professor from International Business at Hokkaido Gakuen University said to the students, “自分を鍛えて、世界で役に立つ人になってくださいね。可能性は無限ですね。応援しています。”“世界のために活躍してください。”
This exchange not only provided a practical platform for students from both schools to enhance their language skills and broaden their international perspectives, but also enabled them to deepen understanding and friendship through communication. It also demonstrated the significance of mutual learning among Chinese and Japanese youth in cross-cultural communication. Moreover, it laid a solid and long-term foundation for future cooperation between the two schools in academic research, talent cultivation, and multi-level and multi-field collaboration, opening up broader prospects.
