A Delegation Led by Matthias Springer from the University of Munich Visit the SFL for Workshops
In March and June 2025, the German Department at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the German as a Foreign Language (DaF) program at the University of Munich, based on the LMU China Academic Network (LMU-Chan), jointly held two workshops and academic exchange activities focusing on German academic language and cultural memory.
From March 18th to 29th, Elena Rollo from the University of Munich presented a German Language Workshop to the SFL teachers and students, aiming to enhance students' German language skills and demonstrate the cultural differences behind the language. Through immersive learning and two-way cultural interaction, the workshop not only helped students improve their oral expression, listening comprehension and presentation skills, but also effectively trained their cross-cultural communication abilities, becoming a practical platform for cultivating talents with an international perspective and cross-cultural communication literacy.
On June 15th, Matthias Springer from the University of Munich gave a language and culture workshop to the teachers and students of the SFL. The students improved their German academic reporting ability in the cultural presentation, and further gained the cutting-edge theoretical knowledge in the field of cultural memory, and explored the logic of cultural cognition behind language. This workshop was oriented towards enhancing students' academic competitiveness, aiming to expand their discourse construction ability in the field of German language and culture research and broaden their academic horizons. Through exchanges with the teacher, the students not only gained professional knowledge but also gained a deep understanding of the training model and learning methods of the University of Munich in Germany, providing an international perspective for planning their academic development and conducting high-level academic exploration.
The collaboration between the German Department of the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Department of German as a Foreign Language at the University of Munich began in 2014 and has been going on for 11 years. This series of workshops represented another significant practice of the cooperation, building a solid academic bridge between the two institutions. It was expected that the University of Munich and Shanghai Jiao Tong University will continue to deepen their efforts in areas such as language and cultural research, joint talent cultivation, and work together to expand the breadth and depth of Sino-German educational and cultural exchanges, so as to write a brand-new chapter of international academic cooperation.
