SFL Undergraduates Win Grand Prize in Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition
On May 25, 2025, the 19th "Challenge Cup" Shanghai College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition concluded successfully at Shanghai University of Science and Engineering. The undergraduate team from the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, guided by Assistant Professor Lin Yi and Tenured Professor Ding Hongwei, emerged victorious after intense competition and won the grand prize, setting a new record for the best performance in the SFL history!
From May 23rd to 25th, the final competition was successfully held at Shanghai University of Engineering and Science. In the morning of May 24th, three students, Lu Yangfan, Ni Shumeng and Lai Yanchen, skillfully combined visual, auditory and other diversified forms to vividly and comprehensively demonstrate the innovative highlights and unique value of the project, which won the judges' high attention and recognition. In the afternoon, Kong Xinyao, Lu Yangfan and Lai Yanchen represented the team to participate in the defense. They answered the judges' questions in a composed manner, showing solid professional qualities and good teamwork. Eventually, the project received unanimous praise from the judges and won the grand prize.
Since the start of this year's "Challenge Cup" competition, the SFL has attached great importance to it. Zhang Yifan, the deputy party secretary of the SFL, has provided in-depth guidance on the competition preparation work, coordinated the promotion and invited industry experts to offer advice and suggestions. Under the leadership of the guiding teachers Lin Yi and Ding Hongwei, the project team conducted over 20 thematic training sessions, team seminars and simulation defenses, constantly polishing the project results and optimizing the presentation format. Eventually, the project stood out from the school competition and entered the final of the municipal competition for the first time, achieving the best result in the SFL's history in the "Challenge Cup" competition.
The National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, also known as the "Challenge Cup", has been held 18 consecutive times since 1989, once every two years. With the aim of "upholding science, pursuing truth, studying diligently, innovating and confronting challenges", the competition is hailed as the "Olympics" of contemporary college students' scientific and technological innovation.
