In today's educational field, artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping teaching models with unprecedented depth and breadth. The course "Culture in French and English Vocabulary" led by Teacher Cao Hui from the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University skillfully leverages the power of AI to break through the limitations of traditional teaching and create an immersive and interactive feast for students to explore language and culture, achieving the advancement from knowledge transmission to ability cultivation. 

 

 

 

Course Overview: The Deep Integration of Language and Culture 
"Culture in French and English Vocabulary" went beyond traditional vocabulary and cultural teaching by tracing the evolution of French and English vocabulary from a historical perspective and deeply interpreting the rich cultural connotations carried by these words. Focusing on the vocabulary and culture before the 17th century, the course integrated scientific research results such as the expansion of Chinese character culture and the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures, which spiced up the teaching and helped cultivate students' problem awareness and critical thinking ability. 

 

"Seven Ones" Improvement Strategy: Building an Intelligent Learning Ecosystem 
(1) Construction of Exclusive Knowledge Base and Knowledge Extraction 
Teachers meticulously integrated 487 files including multimedia teaching materials, course handouts, literature resources, exercise papers, past assignments, teaching videos, and virtual reality case resources, to construct a comprehensive and in-depth exclusive knowledge base for "French and English Vocabulary Culture". 

 

(2) The Creation of a Three-Dimensional "Knowledge-Problem-Ability" Map 
The course established a three-dimensional "knowledge - problem - ability" map. By leveraging AI technology, it integrated 13,000 learning resources such as knowledge fragments, videos, and exercises to build a multi-dimensional knowledge framework. 

 

(3) Deep Perception Learning Experience Through Digital Humans 
The course introduced digital avatars as innovative teaching tools, such as Zeus (Greek mythology and the origin of vocabulary), Athena (strategy and wisdom vocabulary), Plato (philosophical thought and ethical vocabulary), Prometheus (ethical vocabulary and emotional understanding), and Leonardo da Vinci (the Renaissance and innovation vocabulary), etc. 

 

(4) Diversified Function Applications of the Intelligent Kit 
The course introduced a series of intelligent kits, each with its own focus, to synthesize and facilitate students' learning.

"Culture and Language Link" focused on language and cultural learning. Among them, "Etymology Time Machine" explored the historical origins of words. "Cross-Cultural Communicator" provided strategies for cross-cultural communication. "Bilingual Tutor" taught professional vocabulary, and "Cultural Detective" compared the cultural connotations of English and Chinese words. 

 

(5) The Deep Integration of AI Toolboxes in Language Teaching 
The AI toolbox significantly enhanced teaching effectiveness and students' learning experience through a variety of applications such as intelligent vocabulary assistants, cultural comparison analyzers, intelligent grading, intelligent test paper generation, and intelligent lesson preparation. 

 

(6) Multi-dimensional Value Exploration of Cross-cultural Platforms 
The course built a cross-cultural intelligent course platform integrating content, form and service intelligence. Focusing on students' learning pain spots, it optimized functions such as 24-hour intelligent study companions, knowledge graphs, multi-lingual digital humans, and virtual simulation experiment spaces. It provided services such as online courses, virtual classrooms, social forums, and cross-cultural discussion areas, emphasizing the integrated application with intelligent dialogue study companions, which enabled students to access learning resources anytime and anywhere, interact with teachers and classmates, and achieve one-on-one personalized learning. 

 

(7) AI Series Contextual Simulation Empowers Immersive Learning Experience 
The course offered a series of real-time dialogue and interactive immersive learning experiences, covering 18 practical life themes such as workplace, culture and history, social etiquette, personal growth, etc. 

 

(8) Optimization of Instruction Library and Construction of Proactive Learning Ecosystem 
Based on the "Seven Ones" strategy, a dedicated command library for courses was constructed to facilitate students' exploration of courses. The commands covered multiple aspects such as the origin of vocabulary, cultural analysis, and historical study, supporting diverse learning scenarios. The command library promoted active learning among students, continuously optimizing with accumulated feedback to better meet students' needs and drive deep learning. 

 

Supported by the powerful capabilities of generative artificial intelligence technology, the "Culture in French and English Vocabulary" intelligent course explored the deep integration of innovative teaching models and in-depth learning experiences through integrating knowledge graphs and AI course-specific large models.
