SJTU Kicks off the Project of Foreign Language-empowered Integrated Ideological and Political Education in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Schools
The launching ceremony of Foreign Language-empowered Integrated Ideological and Political Education in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Schools Project of SJTU took place on the 9th floor lecture hall of SJTU's Library and Information Building. As a high-quality project of the "Grand Ideological and Political Education" at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, it aimed to fully integrate scientific and educational resources, mobilize social forces, create a new model of continuous cultivation, and enhance teenager's global competence in the AI era.
Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily; Xu Xiaomin, director of China Daily's Shanghai branch; Zhao Xin, deputy party secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Hu Hao, member of the Party Committee and director of the Publicity Department; Wang Linyuan, party secretary the School of Education and director of the Basic Education Office; Zhou Kai, deputy director of the Publicity Department; Ge Yang, deputy director of the Student Affairs Office; Fan Hongfeng, party secretary and executive principal of the High School Affiliated to Shanghhai Jiao Tong University Minhang Branch, and executive principal of the Second High School affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Wu Haiyan, deputy director of the Elementary Education Office and executive vice principal of the Experimental School affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Wang Yeting, principal of the Experimental Elementary School affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University as well as representatives of primary and secondary school English teachers; Zheng Sichen, deputy director of the China Welfare Institute Children's Palace; Shang Biwu, dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Zhu Yifan, party secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, as well as the leadership team of the School of Foreign Languages, and colleagues from relevant departments, attended the meeting.
Zhao Xin delivered a speech on behalf of SJTU. He pointed out that SJTU's project of foreign language empowerment of ideological and political education integration project in primary, secondary and tertiary schools, supported by AI technology, led by ideological and political education, realized as foreign language empowerment, was not only an innovation in the educational and teaching mode, but also an important initiative to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent. He put forward three expectations for this event: first, to adhere to fostering virtue and nurturing talent, and innovate the mode of ideological and political education; second, to broaden international perspectives and enhance global competence; third, to promote integrated development, build a new ecosystem of collaborative education, and jointly cultivate innovative talents with a sense of patriotism and global outlook.
China Daily presented SJTU with the large-scale photographic documentary work of "100 Photographers Focus on the New Era".
Zhu Yifan elaborated on the AI-empowered foreign language education program aimed at enhancing global competence among teenagers. She stated that the School of Foreign Languages will leverage its advantages in disciplinary expertise, professional faculty, and intelligent foreign language resources, together with the China Welfare Institute Children Palace and affiliated schools of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, focus on improving teenagers' global competence. By deepening the education mechanism, promoting AI-integrated foreign language teaching, organizing competitions for educational purposes, and engaging in industry practice, they will jointly explore practical paths for collaborative education from primary to higher levels through foreign language education.
Shang Biwu presented an industry mentorship certificate to Zheng Sichen, the deputy director of the China Welfare Institute Children's Palace.
Hu Hao, Wang Linyuan and Shang Biwu jointly presented the plaque for the co-construction units of the "Grand Ideological and Political Education Course" high-quality project, gathering the strength of all parties to jointly promote the high-quality implementation of the project.
During the exchange and discussion session, experts delved deeply into the project theme. Wang Hao shared his experience and practices under the title "Integrating Communication into Grand Ideological and Political Education to Warm up the Cultivation of Future Global Competence". Professor Huan Changpeng from the School of Foreign Languages dissected the realization path of "AI-Empowered Foreign Language Education and Talent Cultivation". Chu Yuying, an instructor from the China Welfare Institute Children's Palace, introduced the Global Competence English Speech Contest for Shanghai's teenagers.
As representatives of the co-construction units, three heads of the schools affiliated to SJTU, delivered speeches, expressing their determination and expectations to actively participate in the project and jointly cultivate talents for the new era.
Hu Hao delivered a concluding speech, expressing his earnest expectations for the future development of the project, encouraging all parties to join hands and work together, taking it as an opportunity to jointly explore new educational models and provide more innovative paths for the construction of "grand ideological and political courses", contribute to the cultivation of teenagers with global competence, and ensure that the project achieves fruitful results.
After the meeting, Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, delivered the ninth "Global Competence" special report titled "Unlocking the Code of International Communication for Global Competence" in the lecture hall on the eighth floor of the Library Information Building. More than 100 people, including primary and secondary school English teachers and student representatives from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and its affiliated schools, participated in this event.
