Delegation from the Gunma Prefectural Government of Japan Visit SFL

On March 25th, a delegation led by Koji Nagai, Deputy Minister of the Strategic Affairs Department of Gunma Prefecture, Japan and Kohei Tomita, Director of the Shanghai Office of Gunma Prefecture, visited the School of Foreign Languages. Shang Biwu, dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Tao Qing, Vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages attended the reception. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on promoting student exchange visits in the future. 

 

 

During the exchange, Shang Biwu expressed his sincere gratitude to Gunma Prefecture for its strong support during the "Crossing Borders, Creating the Future" practical exchange activity carried out by SFL teachers and students during the winter vacation. Shang Biwu introduced that during the visit, the teachers and students interacted with local university teachers and students in depth, visited local cultural industry institutions, toured the production workshops and research and development centers of enterprises, and exchanged views with senior management and technical experts of enterprises. He said that this visit not only broadened the students' global vision and enhanced their cross-cultural communication skills, but also provided a high-quality platform for promoting friendship between Chinese and Japanese youth. He also emphasized that the integration of traditional culture inheritance and modern technology development in Gunma Prefecture left a deep impression on the SFL teachers and students and brought them more inspiration and reflection. 

 

 

Minister Koji Nagai said that Shanghai Jiao Tong University was known to be a world-class university and thanked the SFL for actively promoting this exchange. He pointed out that the excellent language and communication skills demonstrated by SJTU students during the visit left a deep impression on Gunma people from all walks of life. He said that the exchange not only ignited the enthusiasm of Japanese students to learn from outstanding Chinese students, but also further enhanced the friendship between Chinese and Japanese youth. He also expressed his hope that in the future, there would be an opportunity to lead university students from Gunma Prefecture to visit Shanghai and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, expecting that through personal experience, Japanese students could feel the changes and development of China.

Tao Qing expressed his gratitude to the Gunma Prefectural Government for its thoughtful preparations to ensure a smooth trip for the SFL teachers and students. He proposed that the two sides can further deepen the interaction and exchange  online and offline in the future. Tao Qing said that since the SFL offered multi-language majors in English, Japanese and German, the university students from Gunma Prefecture were welcome to carry out diversified exchanges with students from various departments.

After the visit, Li Siqi, a teacher of Japanese Department, and Zhang Xin, secretary of Foreign Affairs Office, led the delegation to visit the campus, including the History Museum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the Cultural and Museum Building, and other places to learn about Shanghai Jiao Tong University's development and historical heritage.
