SFL Faculty and Students Go to Japan for Practical Exchange

Published:2025-03-10

To actively build a high-quality platform for international learning and exchange for students of the School of Foreign Languages, and to cultivate students' global vision, cross-cultural communication skills and international competitiveness, after close communication and meticulous preparation between the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Gunma Prefecture Shanghai Office, Dean Shang Biwu led a delegation of teachers and students to visit Gunma Prefecture in Japan, successfully completing the winter practice and exchange activity themed "Crossing Borders, Creating the Future". This event was specially interviewed and reported by the China-Japan New World program of Dragon TV.

During this exchange, both the SFL faculty and students and those from Gunma University in Japan were deeply involved throughout the process. They not only conducted on-site visits and immersive experiences of the local distinctive cultural industries, but also delved into enterprises, visiting production workshops and R&D centers, and had in-depth face-to-face exchanges with senior management and technical experts. Through these activities, the students gained a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of Japan's advanced management and operation concepts, cutting-edge technological research and development achievements, as well as its profound corporate culture. They truly felt the powerful role of technology in promoting the upgrading process of industries, and thus had a clearer and more precise understanding of the application direction of their own majors in the future development of industries.

During the exchange period, the SFL students took on the important responsibility of telling good stories about China and spreading the charm of Shanghai, enthusiastically sharing their rich and colorful campus lives and exploring the local Japan culture in depth. In the final summary report discussion session, students from both sides expressed their opinions freely, and their minds collided to produce brilliant sparks of wisdom, submitting one satisfactory report after another.

This practical activity achieved remarkable results. It not only greatly enhanced the deep friendship between Chinese and Japanese students but also effectively promoted mutual understanding and tolerance among different cultures. The students who participated in the exchange unanimously agreed that this was the most unforgettable winter vacation experience  ever.

Shang Biwu pointed out during the review and exchange activity that last November, the summit talks between the leaders of China and Japan emphasized the significance of fully leveraging the high-level dialogue mechanisms in economic, cultural and other fields. The key to the future development of China-Japan relations lies in the youth of the two countries. He hoped that the youth of the two countries can take on the responsibility of being a bridge for exchanges and contribute to creating a better future for the world.

Strengthening cooperation among industry, academia and research is a key initiative for the SFL to promote its international education strategy. During the winter vacation, the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation actively expanded and organized students from various departments to participate in overseas practical exchange activities such as the "Cherry Blossom Program". Two batches were carried out, both achieving good results. Looking forward to the future, SFL will continue to actively expand international exchange channels, hold more diverse international exchange activities, fully support students' growth and success, and make unremitting efforts to promote international education cooperation and exchange.
