On the morning of February 27th, an expert consultation meeting on the construction plan of "AI + Foreign Languages" at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in Room 107 of Yang Yongman Building. The attending experts included Professor Hu Kaibao, Assistant to the President of Shanghai International Studies University and Director of the Institute of Corpus Linguistics, Professor Chen Xiangjing, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Zheng Yongyan, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Fudan University, Professor Deng Yaochen from the School of English at Dalian University of Foreign Languages, and Liu Jianjun, Distinguished Professor at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wang Hongdong, Vice Dean of the Academic Affairs Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Shang Biwu, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and Zhu Yifan, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, as well as the heads of various departments attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Professor Huan Changpeng. 

Shang Biwu extended a warm welcome to the experts in his opening remarks. He emphasized that the SFL actively responded to the university's "AI + major" education reform strategy and was committed to building a new foreign language talent cultivation system that met national strategic needs and led the development of the times. He looked forward to leveraging the wisdom of the experts to provide theoretical support and practical guidance for the construction of "AI + foreign language major", and explored the transformation path of foreign language disciplines jointly. 

Wang Hongdong introduced Shanghai Jiao Tong University's "AI + HI" integrated development strategy. He pointed out that against the backdrop of artificial intelligence reshaping the educational ecosystem, since the launch of the "AI + Major" development plan in 2024, the Academic Affairs Office had been focusing on building an innovative talent cultivation paradigm with SJTU characteristics, advancing the construction of an interdisciplinary curriculum system, and facilitating the transformation and upgrading of traditional liberal arts through the deep integration of liberal arts and science. 

Huan Changpeng gave a comprehensive report to the experts on the construction plan of "AI + Foreign Languages", detailing the curriculum system, teaching resources, practice and scientific research and innovation education of "AI + Foreign Languages". He emphasized that the School of Foreign Languages should consolidate students' core foreign language literacy, strengthen their international communication capabilities, and innovatively build a compound knowledge structure of "linguistics + cognitive science + artificial intelligence". He also stressed that the plan will establish a dynamic optimization mechanism and looked forward to fully absorbing expert suggestions to improve the closed loop of the talent cultivation . 

During the expert review session, the attending experts reviewed the materials and exchanged views with relevant personnel before fully affirming the "AI + Foreign Languages Major" construction plan and putting forward constructive suggestions. 

In concluding remarks, Zhu Yifan stated that the SFL will fully absorb the experts' suggestions, adhere to the student-centered approach, break through disciplinary boundaries, and build an interdisciplinary and innovative curriculum system. She emphasized that in the era of artificial intelligence, it was urgent for the foreign language discipline to cultivate strategic talents with both AI literacy, cross-cultural competence and innovative thinking through digital transformation. 

This symposium provided important guidance for the construction of the "AI + Foreign Languages" major in the School of Foreign Languages. The School of Foreign Languages will take this opportunity to further improve the talent cultivation plan, steadily advance the professional reform process, and contribute Shanghai Jiao Tong University's wisdom to the innovative development of foreign language education in the new era.
