On February 19th, the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University held a special working meeting to discuss and deploy the work for the 2025 spring and summer semester. Members of the SFL's leadership team, department heads, Party branch secretaries, and the directors of the administrative offices, and other teachers, attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Zhu Yifan, the Party Secretary of the SFL. 

Dean Shang Biwu deployed the new semester's work for the SFL, focusing on the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating talents. He pointed out that 2025 was the year to wrap up the 14th Five-Year Plan and lay out the 15th Five-Year Plan. At this critical juncture, the SFL adhered to the principle of "strengthening the SFL with talents", closely aligning with the main strategic goal of strengthening the university with talents, and adopted a dual approach of recruitment and cultivation to build a first-class teaching staff. SFL actively promoted the classified development reform of the teaching staff and provided comprehensive support for their growth. SFL adhered to the principle of "building the SFL with teaching", empowered course construction with AI to cultivate top-notch foreign language talents, strengthened the construction of key directions and core areas such as language data science and engineering, and regional and country studies, and promoted the implementation of the talent cultivation plan. SFL adhered to the principle of "strengthening the SFL with research", set clear goals, and orderly advanced organized research, achieving breakthroughs and progress in key indicators to enhance the core competitiveness of the discipline. At the same time, Shang Biwu emphasized that the SFL should unite as one to deepen reform and tackle tough challenges, continue to strengthen internal comprehensive governance, deepen cooperation and exchanges with top international universities, enhance international influence and reputation, and with an innovative, pragmatic and determined attitude, strive to create a new situation in all aspects of the SFL's work. 

To accurately grasp the new situation and new tasks, the members of the leadership team, based on their respective areas of responsibility, conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as talent cultivation, discipline construction, scientific research, faculty team building, student affairs, international cooperation, and alumni work. 

In her concluding remarks, Zhu Yifan stated that the Party Committee of the SFL had been committed to promoting comprehensive deepening of reforms under the leadership of the Party. It will continue to deepen the integration of Party building and business operations, strengthen the coordinated construction of Party branches among teachers and students, and meticulously improve the Party building brand of the SFL. High-quality Party building will be used to drive high-quality development. At the same time, she also put forward specific requirements regarding financial, student affairs, and publicity work. She emphasized that the leadership team of the SFL should set an example, fully leverage the backbone role of middle-level cadres in the SFL, maintain a fair, just, clean, and positive atmosphere and environment for entrepreneurship and work, comprehensively striving for the goals of first-class disciplines, first-class teaching, first-class research, first-class faculty, and first-class reputation, seize opportunities, and contribute the strength of the SFL to the new period of reform, development, and construction of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
