The First Session of the Foreign Literature Research Salon  Successfully Held

On the morning of May 6, 2024, the launching ceremony of the Foreign Literature Research Salon of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the first session of "Science, Technology, Humanities and Academic Innovation" were successfully held. 

 

 

The Salon invited Professor Peng Qinglong, distinguished professor of the Major Talent Project of the Ministry of Education, the leading talent of the "Ten Thousand People Plan" of the Organization Ministry of the CPC Central Committee, and the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition) (CSSCI), to be the guest. Shang Biwu, vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Ren Zhujing, deputy Party secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, and more than ten teachers and students participated in the activity. The salon was presided over by He Ning and Shi Xue, doctoral students of the School of Foreign Languages.

 

 

Shang Biwu delivered a speech for the launch of the Foreign Literature Research Salon series. He introduced the original intention and purpose of the establishment of the Literature Research Salon in combination with the disciplinary development orientation of the SFL and the layout of literary talent cultivation, emphasizing that cultivating an international vision, paying attention to interdisciplinary, focusing on the frontier of disciplines, and docking with the national strategy have always been the underlying color of the literature research of the SFL of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and encouraged young teachers and graduate students to dare to be the first, and vigorously push forward the innovation of critical discourse in literary research.

 

 

Professor Peng Qinglong reviewed the academic development of his own research and study around the topics of Australian literature, comparative literature and cross-cultural studies, science and technology humanities etc., and shared his original intention to engage in Australian literature. He also focused on the problems encountered and viewpoints raised during the process of writing Australian Literary Criticism since 1901 and the Study of Oceanian Literature from the Perspective of Multiculturalism. Professor Peng stressed the necessity and practicability of "cross-border" in the study of foreign literature, as well as the important role of Chinese literature in the study of comparative literature, and called for adapting to the development trend of the era of artificial intelligence and digital technology, and deepening the study in a way of "macro expansion and micro depth".

 

 

Finally, Shang Biwu and Ren Zhujing presented souvenirs of salon activities to Professor Peng Qinglong on behalf of the SFL. Professor Peng Qinglong autographed books for teachers and students participating in the activity, and exchanged cordial messages and took photos with them.
