The Award Ceremony of the 4th Siyuan Huawei Cup Creative Translation Competition Held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On March 2, the award ceremony of the 4th Siyuan Huawei Cup Creative Translation Competition and School-Enterprise Cooperation and Translation Education Seminar  took place at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Industry experts and leaders gathered to explore ways to cultivate new translation talents in the age of digitization, to promote translation education, and to deepen school-enterprise cooperation.

 

The award ceremony of the 4th Siyuan Huawei Cup Creative Translation Competition took place in the multifunctional lecture hall on the 3rd floor of Yang Yongman Building of the School of Foreign Languages. Zhang Ailing, Dean of Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation of Shanghai International Studies University, and Secretary General of the China National Committee for Education of Translation and Interpreting; Mu Lei, member of the China National Committee for Education of Translation and Interpreting, and professor of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies; Chang Hui, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Jiang Yanfei, Director of Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co., LTD., and Vice President of Translators Association of China; Zhu Yifan, Deputy Director of International Affairs Division of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Director of Translation Research Center;  Zhao Hong, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of East China University of Science and Technology; together with other experts and scholars, attended the conference. The award ceremony was presided over by Shang Biwu, Vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 


Chang Hui, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of SJTU, delivered a speech, in which he highly acknowledged the active participation and excellent performance of the contestants and congratulated on the event's success. Chang Hui introduced the recent development of the School of Foreign Languages of SJTU and its achievements in recent years in the fields of discipline construction, talent cultivation and service to the society. It was expected that this seminar could deeply promote the convergence of science and education and the fusion of industry and education, continue to innovate the mechanism of cooperation between schools and enterprises, and help cultivate innovative talents.

 

As judge representative, Mr. Guan Xinchao, Deputy Director of the Translation Department of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, reviewed and summarized the competition. He emphasized that the competition provided a platform for students to show their translation skills, demonstrated their potential in the field of creative translation, promoted learning and teaching, further clarified the definition of "creative translation", expanded the dimensions of translation teaching, and created a new path for the cultivation of translation talents.

 

Jiang Yanfei and Chang Hui presented certificates and prizes to the first prize winners.

 

Zhang Ailing and Zhu Yifan presented certificates and prizes to the second-prize winners.

 

Li Xiaochun, Senior Translator of Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and Ren Zhujing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiaotong University, presented certificates and prizes to the representatives of the third-prize winneres.

 

Mr. Lin Huaiqian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Language Services Division of GienTech Digital Technology Group Limited and Vice President of the China Translators Association, and Mr. Shan Jie, General Manager of Jiangsu Sunyu Information Technology Co., Ltd. presented certificates and prizes to the representatives of the outstanding prizes winners. 

 

Professor Mu Lei and Ms. Zhang Li, Director of the Language Service Department Two of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. presented awards to the universities that won the Outstanding Organization Award.Guo Hongjie, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; Liu Shiying, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications; and Li Mei, director of the MTI Center of the School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University, walked onto the stage to accept the award.

 

As representatives of the first prize winners, Zhang Xueding from the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Yang Yawen from Southeast University, shared their experience in the competition.

 

Mr. Guo Hongjie, Ms. Liu Shiyin and Ms. Li Mei shared their experience as representatives of excellent instructors.

 

The 4th Siyuan Huawei Cup Creative Translation Competition Award Ceremony was successfully concluded. The competition used the intelligent evaluation system of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. for evaluation, and also received the technical support from the Liu Gongshen team of the Artificial Intelligence Security Laboratory of the School of Cyberspace Security of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This year's competition aimed to encourage participants to promote the deep integration of technology and translation with an open and exploratory spirit of innovation and solid practical ability, and explore new possibilities in translation practice, so that translation can better serve the society.
