The Sixth Advanced Symposium on Phonetics and its Neural Mechanisms Successfully Held
From June 24th to 26th, the 6th Advanced Symposium on Phonetics and its Neural Mechanisms was successfully held, which was organized by Speech-Language-Hearing Center at the School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
Fifteen renowned experts from home and abroad made keynote speeches, including Chief Physician Chunbo Li and Chief Physician Qing Fan from Shanghai Mental Health Center of SJTU, Professor Hongwei Ding, Associate Professor Fei Li, and Associate Professor Yuxia Wang from School of Foreign Languages of SJTU, Associate Researcher Mengyue Wu from School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Professor Xiaoming Jiang from Shanghai International Studies University, Professor Yang Zhang from University of Minnesota, Professor Chang Liu from University of Texas, Austin, Professor Gang Peng from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Pengmin Qin from South China Normal University, Professor Fei Chen from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Fei Chen from Hunan University, and Dr. Jingjing Guan, the director of Sonova China Innovation Center. More than 120 experts, college teachers, and graduate students from home and abroad attended the seminar.
The seminar was officially opened on the morning of June 24th. Prof. Hui Chang, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a speech.
Prof. Yang Zhang, Prof. Hongwei Ding, Chief Physician Qing Fan, Prof. Fei Chen and Dr. Jingjing Guan gave keynote speeches, respectively. The topics of their speeches were “Understanding the speech signal: Biobehavioral approaches and challenges”, “Interdisciplinary research and domestic and international cooperative research of phonetics in SJTU”, “Quantitative assessment of vocal characteristics of schizophrenic groups”, “Neurophysiologically based speech evaluation and decoding” and “The impact of hearing aid technology on speech perception.”
On June 25th, the seminar began with a speech delivered by Jian Ding, Secretary of CPC of School of Foreign Languages Committee.
Prof. Chunbo Li, Prof. Chang Liu, Prof. Gang Peng, Prof. Xiaoming Jiang, Associate Professor Yuxia Wang, and Prof. Fei Chen gave keynote speeches, respectively. The topics of their speeches were “Schizophrenia and language function problems”, “Speech perception in an aging society: challenges and responses”, “Decoding communicative meaning from noise and neural signals - a neuropragmatics perspective”, “The interface of phonetics and neural science”, “An eye-movement study of online sentence processing”.
On the evening of June 25th, engineer Dan Jiang gave a presentation titled “Research based on SHIMADZU fNIRS system”.
On June 26th, Prof. Pengmin Qin, Associate Professor Fei Li, and Associate Researcher Mengyue Wu gave their keynote speeches, respectively. The topics of their speeches were “Processing mechanisms of own-name processing: evidence from EEG and functional MRI”, “A study of the processing mechanism of Chinese nominal-quantitative phrases: semantic anticipation and integration in the processing of simple grammatical structures”, “Rich audio information processing and its applications”.
After the expert gave keynote speeches, attendees had a heated discussion.
Qing Tao, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a closing speech.
