The Fifth Advanced Symposium on Phonetics and its Neural Mechanisms Successfully Held

The fifth Advanced Symposium on Phonetics and its Neural Mechanisms was successfully held. From July 9th to 11th, the 5th Advanced Symposium on Phonetics and its Neural Mechanisms was successfully held. This symposium was organized by Speech-Language-Hearing Center in School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Thirteen renowned experts from home and abroad made keynote speeches, including Professor Chunbo Li and Chief Physician Qing Fan from Shanghai Mental Health Center of SJTU, Professor Hongwei Ding and Associate Professor Fei Li from School of Foreign Languages of SJTU, Professor Yang Zhang from University of Minnesota, Professor Chang Liu from University of Texas, Austin, Associate Professor Gang Peng from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Pengmin Qin from South China Normal University, Professor Fei Chen from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Xiaoming Jiang from Shanghai International Studies University, Professor Fei Chen from Hunan University, and Dr. Jingjing Guan, the director of Sonova China Innovation Center. More than 80 scholars, college teachers and graduate students from home and abroad attended the seminar.

The seminar was officially opened on the morning of July 9th. Prof. Hui Chang, Executive Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a speech.

Prof. Yang Zhang, Prof. Hongwei Ding, Prof. Fei Chen and Dr. Jingjing Guan gave keynote speeches respectively. The topics of their speeches are "Neural mechanisms of speech and voice processing across life span", "Interdisciplinary research and domestic and international cooperative research of phonetics in SJTU", and "Auditory contribution of speech segmentation: From speech recognition to attentional decoding " and "The influence of language experience on basic auditory ability and its clinical implications ".

On July 10, the seminar began with a speech delivered by Jian Ding, Secretary of CPC School of Foreign Languages Committee.

Prof. Chunbo Li, Prof. Chang Liu, Prof. Gang Peng, Prof. Xiaoming Jiang and Prof. Fei Chen gave keynote speeches respectively. The topics of their speeches were "Digital mental health and applied linguistics", "The influence of phonological environment on speech and non-speech auditory perception", "Speech perception in the aging population", "Dynamic Properties of vocal communication", and "Speech and non-speech processing mechanisms of autistic children in a tonal language background". On the evening of July 10th, Engineer Chaofan Yang gave a lecture entitled "Experimental programming of E-prime".

On July 11th, Professor Pengmin Qin, Associate Professor Fei Li, and Chief Physician Qing Fan gave keynote speeches respectively on the topics of "The processing mechanism of one's own name and its relationship with consciousness", "ERP data collection, pre-processing and analysis: A case study of N400", and "Clinical investigations and follow-up studies on the phonetic features of depressive patients".

After the expert gave keynote speeches, attendees had a heated discussion.

Qing Tao, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a closing speech.
