“With great joy and pride I present to you the first issue of Journal of Second Language Studies (JSLS). The journal is a cooperative venture of Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China and John Benjamins Publishing. JSLS is an internationally refereed journal devoted to second language studies. After a gestation period of two years that witnessed the collective efforts of university administrators, advisory board members, editorial team, the authors and the publisher, JSLS is now ready to enter the arena of international academic publishing. At this moment in time I like to express our gratitude to those who have support us along this journey and acknowledge their contributions to make JSLS a reality. Now that the journal has been launched it is our obligation to see that the journal matures into a strong presence in the field of second language studies. In order to achieve that we welcome your feedback, your comments, your criticism, as well as your manuscripts. It is our ultimate goal to make JSLS a platform to put forward scholars’ research to a wider audience in the scientific community.”
