Professor James G. Basker is Richard Gilder Professor of Literary History, Barnard College, Columbia University, and President of Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (NYC). Twice awarded American National Endowment for Humanities Grant, Prof. Basker not only researches on English Literature, but also explores into American history. He has given lectures in such different places in USA, Britain, Holland, Germany, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and keynote spoken in diverse academic conferences. He is the author of more than 200 papers and 8 monographs, and has edited more than a dozen other books, representative works including Samuel Johnson, Abolitionist: The Story Boswell Never Told (in progress), American Antislavery Writing: Colonial Beginnings to Emancipation (New York: Library of America, 2012), The Critical Review or Annals of Literature (London: Pickering and Chatto, 2002), Tobias Smollett, Critic and Journalist (London: Associated University Presses, 1988).
