On February 27, 2019, QS released the 2019 World University Rankings, which names 1222 universities and 5 university departments for the study of 48 different subjects based on subjective indicators, reputation surveys, number of essays cited and H-index indicators. In QS World University Rankings 2019, our modern linguistics subject and linguistics subject both ranked top 100 and our English language and literatures subject ranked top 101-150.
In recent years, with the implementation of major strategies of “talent development, globalization, interdisciplinary research, strong links to industry, responsiveness to the priorities of government”, subjects of SFL have experienced a rapid growth. The number of papers and articles we published on CSSCI, A&HCI and SSCI journals has continued to grow, the textbooks published by SFL that are listed as 11th and 12th Five-Year National Planning Materials have increased year by year, the total of our provincial and ministerial level projects are hitting a record high, and the National Social Science Fund Projects we undertake have grown to cover all our subjects in linguistics, literatures and translation. Driven by major theoretical and practical issues of foreign language subjects, SFL has been responsive to the needs of the country’s economic and social development by focusing on personnel training quality, academic achievements, and multi-evaluation ncentive mechanisms. Based on internationalization strategies, SFL is promoting interdisciplinary research through innovation and cooperation to build first-class subjects of linguistics, foreign literatures and translation. The QS World University Rankings 2019 is a nod to SFL’s efforts to develop its subjects in recent years.
