On the afternoon of August 3, an overseas practice delegation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s “Future Young Leaders · Global Competency Program” visited Calais Digital Assets Limited, an outstanding alumni enterprise based in Singapore. Shi Feng, Vice President of the SJTU Singapore Alumni Association, and Yan Li, Co‑founder and CEO of Calais Digital Assets, received the faculty and student delegation and held an in‑depth seminar. The discussion centered on how digital innovation empowers the global expansion of technology enterprises and how global organizations can build long‑term competitive advantages.

Led by Professor Wang Yuxia and Yu Min, Director of the External Cooperation and Exchange Office at the School of Foreign Languages, the Singapore practice delegation consists of 11 outstanding students from nine SJTU schools, namely the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Integrated Circuits, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Biomedical Engineering, the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Antai College of Economics and Management, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Education, and the School of Psychology. Centered on the theme “Era Exploration for Global Competency: AI‑Empowered Technology and Humanities, Enterprise Globalization, and Overseas Dissemination of Governance Philosophy”, the delegation focuses on China’s governance concepts, the global expansion of Chinese enterprises, and AI‑driven integrated development of technology and humanities. During the overseas field study, the delegation will visit prestigious local institutions including outstanding alumni enterprises, the Bank of China Singapore Branch, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and the National University of Singapore, while conducting on‑the‑ground research in local communities and streets. Through cross‑cultural exchanges and practical exploration, the team aims to perceive new developments in technology and humanities and explore effective paths to enhance global competencies.

On behalf of the SJTU Singapore Alumni Association, Shi Feng extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He stated that the overseas alumni association serves as a shared spiritual home for all SJTU members. He encouraged the participating students to seize unprecedented opportunities in the new era, forge ahead with solid efforts, and carry forward the missions undertaken by previous generations of SJTU alumni. Against the backdrop of China’s growing comprehensive national strength, he emphasized that young people should take the initiative to enhance the country’s cultural influence and brand soft power, achieve personal growth and self‑value while pursuing individual dreams, and contribute youthful vitality to the country’s long‑term development.
Yan Li delivered a themed sharing on the company’s development journey, technological innovation, and overseas entrepreneurial experience, followed by interactive discussions with the delegation. She introduced that Calais Digital Assets is a technology‑driven asset management enterprise specializing in quantitative investment strategies. Initially focused on digital assets, the company is currently undergoing strategic transformation toward global multi‑asset enhancement. It incorporates highly liquid assets such as stock indices, gold, and digital assets into its investment portfolio, and pursues sustainable returns under controlled risks through dynamic asset allocation, portfolio rebalancing, and derivative instruments. The enterprise’s core development philosophy of upholding long‑termism and sustainable value creation is well embodied in its corporate motto: “Gentle as running water, yet converging into a mighty sea through persistent accumulation”.

Wang Yuxia expressed sincere gratitude to the SJTU Singapore Alumni Association and Calais Digital Assets for their warm reception. She briefly introduced the delegation’s composition, research themes and visit objectives. She noted that the current era is defined by profound global changes and rapid advances in artificial intelligence, placing new demands on the competency development of young talents in the new era. She remarked that “only by exploring the world can one form a true worldview”. Overseas field study serves as a vital platform for students to refine their global competencies and grow into future young leaders, as well as a key initiative for the university’s international talent cultivation and moral education efforts. Delegation members engaged in in‑depth discussions with the alumni seniors on enterprises’ digital globalization layout, global competition strategies, and youth entrepreneurship and growth overseas.

Through this seminar, the students gained in‑depth insights into the global operation models of technology asset management enterprises and the core logic of digital innovation driving the global expansion of Chinese enterprises. They also developed a more tangible and profound understanding of the professional capabilities, industrial vision and global mindset required for international talents in the new era. The students stated that they would fully leverage this valuable overseas research opportunity, cultivate the core literacy of “six core competencies” through cross-cultural practice and interdisciplinary research, break through inherent cognitive limitations, and build solid global vision and comprehensive competency through global observation, international benchmarking and practical exploration.
