On May 13, 2026, the 55th lecture series hosted by the Interdisciplinary Narrative Research Center, School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was successfully held in Room 316, Yang Yongman Building.
The lecture featured Dr. Bai Hua, an editor for Humanities & Social Sciences Publishing in the Asia-Pacific region at Palgrave Macmillan, Springer Nature. Under the theme"Journey of Book Publishing with Springer Nature: From Cooperation to Successful Publication", she provided a systematic overview of the whole process and core essentials of academic book publishing.
The event was presided over by Tenure-track Associate Professor Zou Li. Teachers and students from various disciplines participated actively with lively academic exchanges.

Dr. Bai Hua provided a brief overview of Springer Nature, the world’s leading academic publisher. Boasting a nearly 200-year history, its two core brands Springer and Palgrave Macmillan focus respectively on STEM disciplines and humanities & social sciences. Dr. Bai Hua then delivered a detailed presentation on the core processes and key points of academic book publishing. Focusing on proposal submission, internal and external review processes, contract signing, manuscript editing and production, and publication promotion, she systematically explained requirements for every stage of the process----from conceptualizing a topic to successful publication---- with a particular emphasis on the key considerations for completing proposal forms.
In the Q&A session, attendees raised questions over copyright, royalty standards, word count requirements for book chapters and image quality standards, as well as the rights and responsibilities division between authors and translators. Dr. Bai Hua offered targeted advice and practical publishing guidance based on her professional experience.

The successful lecture effectively helps faculty and students improve academic publishing competency and facilitates the international dissemination of scholarly achievements.
