Forum Abstract
Amid rapid advances in digital technologies and ongoing reshaping of the global cultural landscape, artificial intelligence, algorithms, platforms and digital media are profoundly transforming individual experiences, social relations and modes of cultural production. These shifts compel us to rethink the relationships among subjectivity, technologoy and cultural representation. Particularly within the East Asian context, fast-evolving technological modernity, global capital and media flows, interwined with the historical experiences and cultural traditions of diverse societies, render literature and culture a vital arena for observing and reflecting on such transformations.
Against this backdrop, the 2026 Yonsei University-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Graduate Academic Forum centers on the theme Subjectivity, Technology and Cultural Representation. It explores how technological change and soci--cultural transitions reshape subjective experience, identify formation and cultural difference, and how these transformations are represented, negotiated and critiqued through literary narratives, media forms and cultural practices. The forum seeks to build a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary platform for young scholars. It encourages emerging researchers in literature, cultural studies, media studiesand related fields to engage with specific texts and socio-cultural contexts. Drawing on the interplay between East Asian experiences and global perspectives, participlants will discuss new questions, subjects and methodologies confronting contemporary humanities research.
