摘要：
In metrical phonology, there are two diametrically opposed positions on meter. The Platonic position asserts that meter, such as the iambic pentameter, is absolute, whereas the Aristotelian position asserts that meter is gradient. Generative metrical theorists since Morris Halle are overwhelmingly Platonic, with a few arguing for a gradient approach to meter. We take a usage-based approach to meter, arguing for an Aristotelian view of what is metrical and what is unmetrical based upon an exhaustive analysis of all 154 sonnets of Shakespeare.

 

包智明教授简介：

国际知名语言学家。1978年毕业于上海复旦大学英语专业。1985年获全额奖学金赴美国攻读博士学位，师从音系学鼻祖、美国科学院院士、美国国家艺术与科学院院士、美国语言学学会会长、美国麻省理工学院“学院教授”Morris Halle。1990年获美国麻省理工学院语言学博士学位。包教授迄今在包括美国语言学学会旗舰刊物、语言学世界第一权威期刊Language, 美国麻省理工学院主办、普通语言学国际顶级期刊Linguistic Inquiry, 以及英国语言学学会旗舰刊物、普通语言学国际顶级期刊Journal of Linguistics在内的SSCI期刊上发表学术论文数十篇。包教授迄今独立出版专著两部，分别是The Structure of Tone (Oxford University Press, 2000), System, transfer and filter: the making of vernacular Singapore English (Cambridge University Press, 2015)。包教授的学术作品迄今在国际上被引用逾千次，几乎所有的国际知名音系学家都引用过包教授的学术作品。包智明教授是新加坡国立大学教授、语言学学科负责人、浙江大学曹光彪讲席教授、复旦大学海外杰出教授
