Thank You, My Dear Teacher-----SFL Teachers and Students Fight Covid-19 Together

It is the 7th day of closed loop management on campus today. 
With the resurgence of COVID-19 in Shanghai, 
the epidemic prevention and control situation on campus remains grim. 
The School of Foreign Languages strictly implements the regulations of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
with high efficiency, and also with warmth and touching moments.

will be the exclusive memory of their college years.

March 9th 
marks the first day of closed loop management on campus.
Leaders of School of Foreign Languages 
entered the closed loop voluntarily,
and joined the fight against the epidemic
together with other stranded teachers. 

On March 12th, 
Shanghai Jiao Tong University issued the “Stay Indoors” control regulation officially. 
Teachers who one minute ago were lecturing on the podium, 
voluntarily put on the protective suits, 
which were nicknamed as “Da Bai’s armor” by the students, 
and started to deliver three meals a day to students. 

Don't panic, the teachers are coming. 

Teachers voluntarily drive their private cars to deliver meals to the dormitory buildings.
 

Students waited at the window to take a shot of teachers. 
 

Warm food was carefully packed and arranged. 

Teachers cheered each other at the end of the delivery. 

Working round the clock for several days, lack of sleep, high-intensity work
put teachers under tremendous pressure.
But none of them complained.
SFL students said on Wechat that
they felt how arduous the teachers’ work was.
They took record of every meal delivered to their doors
by the most educated deliverymen in China.

Don’t be afraid. The teachers are here. 
 

It was the 6th day of nucleic acid test in Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 

At around 12 o’clock, a sudden gust of wind hit the Minhang area and the nucleic acid test sites at the Huoyingdong Stadium encountered a sudden danger. The steel-framed awning was blown off, smashing into the crowd of testing doctors and students lining up. In a split second, Ding Jian, the Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, seized the iron pole of the awning without hesitation and refused to let it go, even though his body was carried off the ground by the wind.  The awning changed its original trajectory, crushing down. Ding Jian also fell heavily onto the ground. His gloves were torn out, his protective suits were split open and the back of his head was bruised and bumped. Luckily, the doctors and students were safe. 

On March 9th, when Ding Jian learned about the closed-loop management on campus,
he resolutely entered the closed loop.
And this wasn’t the first time that Ding Jian decided to head into the danger zone.

In 2016 an earthquake hit Kumamoto in Japan. Mr. Ding was the consul of the Chinese Consulate General in Fukuoka at the time. Regardless of his own safety, he asked for a battle assignment and went to the earthquake-stricken area where the aftershocks still raged on. He organized the student elites from the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in Japan to cooperate with the Chinese embassy and consulate to carry out earthquake relief, rescuing many Chinese students studying abroad.

Mr. Ding was with Chinese students in the earthquake-stricken area of Kumamoto In 2016.

This time, Ding Ji stepped forward again,

telling everyone with practical actions,

"Don't be afraid, the teacher is here!"
After Ding’s injury, many teachers and students were concerned about him. Now Ding Jian is in good health and has returned to his work. 

My Dear Teacher, I want to say "thank you"!

The lights of SFL’s office building was always on. Teachers here were busy preparing lessons, contacting supplies, comforting students and taking a nap on the floor. A week ago, they were just ordinary people commuting between the classrooms and family, but the sense of responsibility had transformed them into “the loveliest and the bravest man” in the students’ heart. 

The students expressed that what they said most these days was “Thank you, my dear teachers.”
 But the teachers also wanted to say, “Thank you, my dear students. Thank you for making me braver.”

Like the sudden gust of wind in the yesterday’s afternoon,
The cold spell we are experiencing now
Will eventually disappear 
in front of so many warm hearts.

Let us stick together hand in hand,
stand side by side.
Let us look forward to the day of
blooming flowers, warm spring and bright scenery.
