题目：Local Patterns of AFFECT in Australian and Chinese Hard News Reporting: A Corpus-based Study

摘要：This paper probes the linguistic mechanism through which AFFECT is realized in Chinese and Australian hard news discourse. The data that the paper draws on is from Chinese and Australian news reporting on risk events. The annotation framework that the study has adopted to code markers of AFFECT is the APPRAISAL framework. The study will focus on distribution of semantic features of AFFECT and phraseological patterns of AFFECT markers in the corpus. Corpus findings will be explained in relation to the distinction in the way news is produced in each context. The paper will not only shed light on the distinctive ways in which AFFECT resources are adopted to reproduce social values but also make an original contribution to the study of AFFECT patterns in Chinese.
