每年围绕中心主要研究领域（包括学术话语、司法语言学、语言类型学、翻译研究以及语料库语言学等）举办一次由国内外专家参与的高端学术论坛。
马丁中心适用语言学与学术语篇国际会议（高端论坛）

全球化为我们带来了诸多挑战。作为语言学家和社会学家，我们面临的最严峻的挑战之一是学术语篇，尤其是英语、汉语、西班牙语的学术语篇。通过这些学术语篇，大量至关重要的知识在全球范围得以生产和再生产。本次论坛聚焦英语学术语篇的性质，既从课程设置的角度探讨这种语篇的特点，又从课堂教学的角度探讨如何使学生和教师对这种语篇善加利用。脱离学术语篇，知识的生产（科研）和再生产（培训）都无从进行。
在为期五天的论坛期间，我们将从系统功能语言学与合法化语码理论这两种互补的视角出发，探讨自然科学、社会科学、人文科学学术语篇的范围。此外，我们还将研究如何将“悉尼学派”读写能力教学方法应用到中高等教育当中。该方法在读写能力教学项目中充当重要媒介，于相关学科内部发挥作用，而高等教育中的学术语篇语类教学往往与学科本身并行。
论坛内容包括由世界知名功能语言学家Yaegan Doran、Susan Hood、Talia Gill、J R Martin及David Rose与合法化语玛理论创始人Karl Maton主持的专题研讨和工作坊,其间还安排有理论家访谈及与参会者的座谈活动。上述国际知名学者近十年来在悉尼开展了紧密合作，在教育语言学及教育社会学领域发展出许多新的理念。他们在学术语篇识解与再识解方面的研究成果卓著、见解独到，本次论坛将首次把这些研究成果全面引介至中国。
