| The
Department of English offers a Bachelor of Arts programme in English
Language and Literature, with some components of economics and finance.
This programme aims to cultivate university English instructors,
researchers of English language and literature, interpreters and
translators, and consultative and administrative personnel for foreign-funded
institutions and enterprises of finance, law, accounting and international
trade. This programme accepts distinguished secondary school graduates
who take entrance examinations in science courses.
The Department currently comprises about 20 staff members, among
whom seven are full professors, nine are associate professors and
four are lecturers. Three of these staff members are PhD degree
holders and eight are MA degree holders. Apart from teaching the
BA programme (English Language) courses, the majority of the staff
members teach MA courses in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and
Literature and supervise PhD and MA dissertations. The strength
of the Department is augmented by the presence of guest professors
and lecturers from overseas.
The staff of the Department publish research monographs, translation
works and textbooks, attend domestic and international academic
conferences or symposiums and are invited to give lectures at other
universities. Their main research domains include linguistics, applied
linguistics, foreign language education, translation studies, English
and American literature and literary theories.
The BA programme in English Language is also available to undergraduate
student of other colleges and departments of this university.
