The Translation Research and Practice Base Officially Inaugurated in SJTU

On September 20, the Translation Research and Practice Base was officially inaugurated by the  China International Communications Group (CICG) Academy of Translation and Interpretation and the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Mr. Huang Yulong, president of CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation, and Mr. Zhang Ansheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Mr. Li Weiyong, Vice President of CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation, Mr. Zhang Yaming, Director of the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies, Mr. Ding Jian, Party Secretary of the School of Foregin Languages, Mr. Chang Hui, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Tao Qing, vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages and student representatives attended the event. The meeting was presided over by Ren Zhujing, Vice Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages. 

 

Huang Yulong's speech


Huang Yulong said that the joint establishment of Translation Research and Practice Base aimed to explore the joint cultivation of high-end translation talents by the two sides, which was a concrete measure to speed up the implementation of the central government's strategy of the construction of the national translation talent team. With the starting point of serving the overall national strategy, CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation will work together with SJTU to build a national team of translators who know the languages, specialize in translation, and master the art of communication. It will provide an effective path for students to develop from "specialty" to "profession"and then to "career", providing solid talent support for the national translation capacity construcation and international communication capacity construction.

 

Speech by Mr. Zhang Ansheng

 

Zhang Ansheng warmly congratulated on the establishment of the Translation Research and Practice Base. He emphasized that SJTU the School of Foreign Languages had always been committed to cultivating a team of high-end translation talents who knew both the domestic and world affairs, which can never go far without the strong support from the academia and the industry. To jointly establish Translation Research and Practice Base with the CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation can help cultivate international communication talents with "national sentiment, international vision and global mindset", attract a larger group of students with skills, qualities, ideals and responsibilities to answer to the call of building a country with strong culture and take root in the front line of culture construction.

Speech by Ding Jian


On behalf of SJTU the School of Foreign Languages, Mr. Ding Jian expressed his warm welcome to President Huang Yulong and his delegation, and thanked CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation for its long-term support to SJTU the School of Foreign Languages. He said that SJTU attached great importance to the cooperation and co-construction with CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation and looked forward to further deepening the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

 

Li Weiyong and Tao Qing introduced the work on behalf of both sides respectively.

 

Chang Hui presented to Huang Yulong and Li Weiyong the industry mentor appointment letter of SJTU School of Foreign Languages. 

 

The meeting aimed to take the opportunity to innovate the training mode of translation talents, reinforce the idea of educating people for the Party and the country, tell China's stories well and spread China's voices to the outside world, and present the image of credible, lovable, and honorable China to the world, so as to promote the high-quality development of translation career in the new era.
