On the afternoon of July 14, the School of Foreign Languages held 2021 end of spring and summer semester faculty meeting. All the faculty, staff and student representatives attended the meeting, which was presided over by Xing Lianqing, vice secretary of CPC SFL committee.

Chang Hui, executive associate dean of SFL, made a summary of this semester’s work. Centering upon centenary of the founding of CPC, SFL endeavored to promote party building in a comprehensive way, with impressive work from the Trade Union, and had achieved remarkable results in fostering virtue through education, teacher workforce development, scientific research and innovation, and social services. A One-hundred people multi-lingual recitation, which was named “Learn Four Histories and Read Classics” was successfully staged. A contest on CPC’s history was organized. The fundamental task of “fostering virtue through education” was adhered to. Remarkable results were achieved in discipline and courses construction. A number of outstanding talents were recruited. The number of research paper and projects have been growing steadily. A number of academic conferences and summer seminars were successfully held. Social services work and industry-university-research work were carried out actively.

Ding Jian, secretary of CPC SFL committee, made work arrangements of the learning of teaching ethics. With all teachers, he reviewed General Secretary Xi Jinping's important exposition on education, saying that SFL took teacher development as the fundamental work, and attached great importance to teacher’s political awareness and moral integrity. He emphasized that teachers should strengthen the study of four histories by centering upon the main thread of Party history. Teachers should continue to learn from excellent teachers around them. When they meet a man of virtue, learn from him. They should adhere to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and be bold in assuming the historic mission of cultivating people and talents for the Party and the country. By drawing upon some typical cases of teacher ethics violation, Ding Jian urged SFL teachers to take them as a mirror, learn from them, bear in mind the "noble calling of education", and make new and greater contributions to further constructing a first-class foreign language discipline and a harmonious SFL.

Xing Lianqing, vice secretary of CPC SFL committee, announced the decision of awarding advanced party branches and advanced individuals on "Learning Empowers China" platform in the first half of 2021 SJTU and the second quarter of 2021 SFL.

Xing Lianqing emphasized that quality counts more than appearances, and action speaks louder than words. Theoretical learning lies not only in knowing, but also in acting. It was hoped that all will make every effort to continue to make greater achievements, for example, in teaching and educating people, in conducting research to meet country’s needs, and in doing practical things for faculty and staff.
