  1. About the forum

Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which is under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, is one of the key universities of “985 National Project” and “211 National Project”. Its Foreign Language and Literature Discipline is one of the first disciplines which was awarded the right to confer the secondary discipline Doctor’s degree.  In 2003, Post-doctoral mobile station in Foreign Language and Literature was established. In 2007, it was one of the first disciplines that was awarded the right to confer Master’s degree in Translation, and in 2011, it was awarded the right to confer the first-level discipline Doctor’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature.

 

The First Forum for International Young Scholars will be held at School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University on June 27-28, 2017. The forum aims to provide an academic exchange platform for young scholar from China and abroad in the field of Foreign Language and Literature and relevant fields through keynote presentations and group discussions, discussing the frontiers of Foreign Language and Literature, tracking hot academic issues, broadening academic views, inspiring academic thoughts and facilitating communication and cooperation.

 

  1. Themes

This forum will invite well-known outstanding scholars in China and abroad, including Jonathan Locke Hart, Wang Ning, Nie Zhenzhao, Jin Yan, Chang Hui, Wu Fuyun and Shang Biwu, etc. They will discuss the following themes with invited young scholars:

  1. Theoretical Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Functional Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics
  2. Comparative Literature, National Literature, Literature Theories and Multi-Culture Studies
  3. Corpus-based Translation Studies, Translation Theories, History of Translation and Cognition in Translation.

 

  1. Forum Arrangement

Registration is free. Transportation and accommodation will be covered by young scholars. Meals will be arranged by the organizer. After academic reports and exchange, the forum will award the outstanding young scholars 2000-5000 RMB.

Forum Schedule:

  1. June 27 all day:Registration
  2. June 28 morning:Keynote presentation
  3. June 28 afternoon: Group discussion

 

  1. Requirements for applicants

This forum is open to young scholars (under the age of 40) who are doctoral students or received doctoral degree from renowned universities from China and abroad. Applicants should have made certain achievements or have potential in the field of Foreign Language and Literature or relevant fields.

 

  1. Registration

Applicants should send your CV (including your photo, education and working background, a brief introduction of academic achievements, published papers and awards) to yangliu66@sjtu.edu.cn.

Deadline for registration: May 31, 2017.

The official invitation will sent by June 10, 2017.
